Tatarstan-Egypt business forum held in Cairo

On October 15, during his working visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce and the Union of African Chambers of Commerce Ahmed El Wakil.

During the meeting, Minnikhanov and Ahmed El Wakil exchanged their views on promising areas for the development of cooperation. Speaking at the meeting, Minnikhanov noted that high-tech products from Tatarstan are well known in Egypt, including KAMAZ trucks, helicopters manufactured by the Kazan Helicopter Plant and many other items. Today, the republic is interested in expanding export of petrochemical and engineering products to Egypt, including ships of various displacement and class, car tires, compressors, pharmaceutical products and medical equipment, agricultural products. In its turn, Tatarstan is interested in direct deliveries of fruits, vegetables and seafood, light industry products and other things from Egypt.

“I am sure that there is a potential for expanding cooperation between Tatarstan and Egypt as part of Russian-Egyptian relations. We need to intensify our relations between our chambers of commerce and industry. We count on your support in developing mutually beneficial cooperation,” Tatarstan President said and invited Ahmed El Wakil to visit the republic with a delegation of Egyptian businessmen to look into details.

Later on the same day, Minnikhanov and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Arab Republic of Egypt Ahmed Antar opened the Tatarstan-Egypt business forum. In his welcoming speech, Minnikhanov thanked Egyptian businessmen for their interest in Russia, and in Tatarstan in particular, and invited everyone to attend the annual International Economic Summit "Russia - the Islamic World: KazanSummit", which will be held in the spring of 2019.

On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the republic of Tatarstan, Shamil Ageyev greeted the forum participants and informed them about the readiness and openness of the republic to mutually beneficial cooperation. Then, Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan Albert Karimov made a presentation of the commercial, industrial and investment potential of the republic to the business community of Egypt. Director for Africa at KAMAZ Foreign Trade Company Kirill Cherniltsev informed the audience about the updates in the model range of Tatarstan-made trucks. Director General of Ak Bars Shipbuilding Corporation Renat Mistakhov told the forum about the possibilities of the republic in shipbuilding.

The Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Arab Republic of Egypt signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the end of the forum.
