Tatarstan President arrives on a working visit in Egypt

On October 14, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, who arrived on a working visit in the Arab Republic of Egypt, was met by Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar and Charge d'affaires a.i. of Russia in Egypt Svetlana Zubova at the Cairo International Airport.

During his working visit, official meetings with President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Prime Minister of Egypt Mostafa Madbouly are scheduled, at which Minnikhanov intends to discuss the development of mutual cooperation. Also, Tatarstan President plans to visit one of the oldest universities in the world Al-Azhar University and to meet the leadership of this prestigious religious educational institution. Minnikhanov intends to consider the issues of student training in the university and opportunities for cooperation with the Bolgar Islamic Academy. He also plans to visit the Al-Azhar Al-Sharif Mosque and look around the historical part of Cairo.

Minnikhanov is expected to take part in an unveiling ceremony of the bust to the famous orientalist and political figure Yevgeny Primakov in the square near the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Cairo. An interview with the popular TEN TV channel (Tahrir Egyptian Network) is scheduled at the end of his first working day in Egypt.

The second day of the visit will start with a meeting with Minister of Trade and Industry of Egypt Amr Nassar, following which Tatarstan-Egypt Business Forum will be held with participation of representatives of local authorities and business.

Later on the same day, Tatarstan President will have a meeting with Culture Minister of Egypt Inas Abdel Daim, visit the Cairo Opera House and have a tour of the Egyptian National Museum.

Today, the Arab Republic of Egypt is among the leaders of the African continent in economic development. Egypt is one of the most attractive partners of Tatarstan for the development and strengthening of trade, economic and investment relations. At the end of 2017, the bilateral trade turnover between the countries amounted to 22.8 million US dollars. Promising areas for the development of cooperation are shipments of Tatarstan machine-building and petrochemical products, oil and gas production equipment, KAMAZ vehicles, helicopters of the Kazan Helicopter Plant, ships of the Zelenodolsk Shipbuilding Plant named after Gorky to Egypt. Cooperation in the area of pharmaceuticals, the supply of medical equipment, goods of light industry, in the area of agriculture and mutual shipments of food products deserve attention. A new stage of development can get cooperation in the area of education, science and culture, sports and tourism.
