Rustam Minnikhanov takes part in the opening of the International Science and Technology in Society Forum

On October 7, during his working visit to Japan, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in an opening ceremony of the annual International Science and Technology in Society Forum (STS-Forum) at the Kyoto International Conference Center.

For the 15th time, this event gathered over 1.500 scientists, entrepreneurs, political and public figures from more than 150 counties, including Russia.

Russian Minister of Economic Development Maksim Oreshkin headed the Russian delegation in Kyoto.

In his welcoming speech, Oreshkin said that science and technologies should become a bridge connecting Russia and Japan.

"Development of science and technologies is a national priority of our country and we are open for technological cooperation. Being a special presidential envoy for development of Russian-Japanese relations, I will do everything possible to ensure that science and technologies become the bridge between our countries," the minister said.

Addressing the guests and participants of the forum, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe promised that he will put maximum emphasis on the development of innovations in the country in the next three years.

During the Forum held on October 7-9, 2018, the international experts discussed a number of issues, in particular, Genome Editing, New Transport Systems, Healthy Ageing and Preventive Medicine, Artificial Intelligence and Society, Cybersecurity and others.

Minnikhanov also took part in the Sustainable Development plenary session.
