On September 28, during his working visit to China, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov together with Head of Investment Development Agency of the republic Taliya Minullina, Director General of the Alabuga Special Economic Zone Timur Shagivaleev and Head of the Administrative Commission of the TEDA Zheng Weiming visited Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA). TEDA was established in 1984 and became the largest and one of the most successful free economic zones in China. Today, the area includes 10 industrial parks with 19,000 resident companies and a total investment volume of over 110 billion US dollars.
TEDA hosts enterprises specializing in such industries as engineering, pharmaceuticals, petrochemical production and processing, the production of electronics and telecommunications equipment, food, the sphere of new energy and modern materials, transportation and storage of goods, logistics.
Tatarstan delegation also got acquainted with the South Port, a new industrial site of the Area . The project was launched in 2009. The infrastructure and the first plants are under construction, a deep-water port for various types of cargo reception has been built. Shell and SINOPEC Companies are already operating in the Port.
During the meeting, Minnikhanov emphasized that Tatarstan is interested in the experience of the South Port. The republic plans to implement the Alabuga-2 project also aimed at developing petrochemical industries in the special economic zone.
Moreover, representatives of the TEDA were introduced the advantages of the Alabuga Special Ecomonic Zone. Leadership of the Tatarstan Special Economic Zone considers TEDA as a partner in the establishment of a joint venture. It is supposed that the presence of a Chinese partner will attract investors from the Middle Kingdom.
