On September 8, after the official meeting with the leaders of West Kazakhstan region, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov accompanied by Akim of the region Altay Kulginov had a meeting with delegations of ethno-cultural associations of the Tatars of the Republic of Kazakhstan, visited the historical Red Mosque and the museum of Gabdulla Tukay, and laid flowers at the monument to the Tatar national poet Tukay and at the monument to the Kazakh national poet Abai.
Currently, there are more than 200,000 Tatars in Kazakhstan, 8,500 of which live West Kazakhstan region.
Not only Gabdulla Tukay but also Nazib Zhiganov, Ibrahim Salakhov, Latif Hamidi, Rishat and Muslim Abdullins and other famous representatives of science and culture of the Tatar people lived and worked in Uralsk.
Every year Sabantuy holiday is held in Uralsk. All guests of the city visit the Gabdulla Tukay Museum and the Red Mosque in a mandatory manner before the holiday begins. In 2013, Minnikhanov took part in the regional Sabantuy, which was held in Uralsk. This year he again became an honoured guest at this holiday.
