Farid Mukhametshin: Nawruz is a holiday which unites people

21.03.2012

International Day of Nawruz is celebrated on March 21 in Muslim and Turkic language world. The name of this holiday translated from Farsi as “new day” speaks for itself – it is the time when new life begins and nature wakes up after a long winter sleep, the advent of new hopes and spiritual revival.

State Council Chairman, Board chairman of the Assembly of Tatarstan peoples Farid Mukhametshin addressed Tatarstaners on the occasion of Nawruz celebration.

“I sincerely congratulate all citizens of our multi-ethnic republic on one of the most bright and beautiful holidays - International Day of Nawruz! In 2009 UNESCO included Nawruz in the Representative list of non-material cultural heritage of humanity. Two years ago the day of vernal equinox of March 21 was announced the International Day of Nawruz at a UN general session. This event underlined undoubted importance of this holiday which unites Muslims all over the world,” the greeting reads.

“I believe that constructive interaction between civil society and religious power will favor consolidation of social unity, peace and conciliation in our country regardless of nationality, religious views and political preferences. I am sure that many of our compatriots will share joyful feelings with representatives of Muslim ummah who consider Tatarstan to be their home. On this bright day Tatarstaners will share their hospitality, joy, warmth and love as they understand that there is nothing more valuable than traditions of neighbourliness and mutual help which exist among Tatarstan peoples. Joint celebration of Nawruz will make this friendship stronger,” Farid Mukhametshin stressed in his greeting.
