On June 17, during his working visit to the Altai Territory, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov together with Acting Governor - Chairman of the Government of the Altai Territory Viktor Tomenko visited the the Turquoise Katun special economic zone of the tourist and recreational type.

Director General of the Turquoise Katun special economic zone Victor Korshinov told Minnikhanov about the history of the creation of the tourist complex and further plans for its development. The special zone was established in the Altai Territory by a decree of the Russian Government in February 2007. It covers an area of 3326.3 hectares. The project is planned to be implemented by 2055.

The Turquoise Katun is Russia’s first large complex of natural and extreme tourism in the mountains, with a clear division into a youth-extreme zone with centres for skiers, rafters, climbers, and a zone with comfortable hotels of various categories.

There are 24 tourist facilities, including hotels, a ski resort, artificial lakes and others in the complex. Moreover, it houses the Siberian Coin gambling zone, where the first casino has already opened.

The Turquoise Katun tourist and recreational zone is a unique facility with a huge potential for the development, Minnikhanov noted. He stressed that Tatarstan also has extensive experience in the field of tourism development and special economic zones, noting the prospect of cooperation in these areas.
