On May 24, on the sidelines of the 22nd St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko.

Governor of St. Petersburg noted that the relations between the regions are developing quite dynamically. For example, the mutual trade turnover exceeded 30 billion roubles in 2016, he said.

According to Poltavchenko, St. Petersburg and Tatarstan have been cooperating in a number of sectors. "We have very serious relations in the oil and gas industry and the production of various equipment. A number of joint projects are being implemented in the sphere of tourism," he said.

Poltavchenko said that the field of medicine and pharmaceuticals is among the promising areas of cooperation. "A serious pharmaceutical cluster is developing in St. Petersburg. We want that our partners, including Tatarstan, will be consumers of our products," the Governor added.

Speaking at the meeting, Minnikhanov congratulated the Governor and all the citizens of St. Petersburg on the upcoming 315th anniversary of St. Petersburg. "St. Petersburg is the pride of our country," he stressed.

Also, Tatarstan President noted the high level of organization of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum: "I participate in it every year and I want to say that it is as good as the forum in Davos. This is an excellent platform, where all the conditions for developing contacts with foreign partners have been created. "

During their meeting, Poltavchenko and Minnikhanov expressed their readiness in further building up mutual trade and developing joint projects.

Then, they signed the Action Plan for implementing the Agreement on Cooperation between the Regions. The agreement was signed in 2016 during the visit of the Governor of St. Petersburg to Kazan. The document envisages joint activities in trade, economic, scientific, technical, social and cultural fields.
