Rustam Minnikhanov holds a meeting with the Tatar community in Ankara

On April 26, during his working visit to the capital of Turkey, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with representatives of the Tatar community in Ankara. Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan, Chairman of the Milli Shura National Council Vasil Shaykhraziev took part in the meeting.

The meeting was held at the building of Society of the Culture and Mutual Assistance of the Kazan Tatars living in Ankara, located on Gabdulla Tukay Street. Before the meeting, Minnikhanov laid flowers at the bust to Gabdulla Tukay, which was unveiled there in May this year.

Chairman of the Society Fuat Tinis briefly told Minnikhanov about the history of the public organization, which was founded in 1965 and work to support national traditions and the native language.

The activists of the Society performed some Tatar songs and read poems for guests from Tatarstan.

In his turn, Minnikhanov said that the Day of the Native Language and the 132nd birth anniversary of the great poet Gabdulla Tukay are celebrated in Tatarstan today.

Minnikhanov also thanked the representatives of the local Tatar community for their attitude to preservation the Tatar language and culture. "You are an example for us," he added.

The Letter of Commendation of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan was handed in to some representatives of the Society for their great contribution to the preservation and development of the Tatar culture.
