Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin takes part in summing-up meeting of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport of the republic

On January 17, at the Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin took part in an extended meeting of the regional Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport to sum up the results of work in 2017 and set tasks for 2018.

Making a keynote report at the meeting, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sport of the republic Vladimir Leonov said that young people living in Tatarstan are the most active in Russia. "As many as 79 per cent of our youth regularly take part in all-Russian and international events. This is the highest figure in the country. In 2017, we held 20 such events. The level of satisfaction of young people with their life in Tatarstan made 88 per cent,” Leonov said.

Leonov continued that eight athletes from Tatarstan are candidates for participation in the 2018 Winter Olympics to be held in Pyeongchang in South Korea. In general, about 370 Tatarstan athletes are members of the Russian national teams in Olympic sports.

Moreover, the Minister offered to establish a regional sports museum. According to Leonov, the opening of such a facility before the FIFA World Cup will give an opportunity to acquaint the guests of the republic with the achievements of Tatarstan athletes.

Leonov also said that eight new pools and six gyms will be open in regional municipalities in 2018. He continued that this programme is unique, since it is not implemented in any other region of Russia.
