A total of 15.9 billion roubles allocated for the improvement of the Volga River in Tatarstan

On October 31, speaking at a briefing at the regional Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the republic Farid Abdulganiev reported that a total of 15.9 billion roubles, including 8.6 billion roubles from the federal budget, 6.1 billion roubles from the regional budget and 1.2 billion roubles of non-budgetary sources, have been allocated for implementing measures as part of the regional priory project aimed at the improvement of the Volga River until 2025.

The speaker said that by order of the Russian President, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia together with 15 entities worked out a passport of the Conservation and Prevention of Pollution of the Volga River priority project.

"In this regard, an inter-departmental working group was set up in the republic to develop and implement a regional priority project  designed for improving the Volga River. The Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia has chosen Tatarstan as a pilot region to implement the project," he said.

The minister noted that if the planned activities are fulfilled and funds are allocated, the volume of contaminated waste water discharged into the Volga Basin will be reduced by at least 60 per cent.
