Rustam Minnikhanov and Minister of Culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky discuss development of tourism in the island-town of Sviyazhsk

On August 21, in the Government House of the republic, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov held a meeting with Minister of Culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky.

Earlier today Medinsky together with UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova and State Counsellor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev visited the island-town of Sviyazhsk. In particular, the Minister inspected the Dormition Cathedral, which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in July.

During his conversation with Minnikhanov, Medinsky appreciated development of the tourist infrastructure in the island-town of Sviyazhsk and noted a large number of tourists there.

The Minister also suggested considering the possibility of increasing the number of hotels and guest houses in the island. According to Minnikhanov, with the growing number of tourists this issue is one of the most urgent today.
