19.08.2017

On August 19, during his working trip to the Turkish Republic, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov visited the Aegean Free Zone. The Director of the economic zone M. Senay Satoglu made a presentation and showed Rustam Minnikhanov around the economic zone.

Founded in 1990, the Aegean Free Zone is the first manufacturing-based modern free zone in Turkey. The Zone is located on 2.2 million m² (550 acres) in Gaziemir, Izmir, 4 km from the Izmir Adnan Menderes International Airport, 12 km from the Port of Izmir and 1 km from major highways. Total trade volume generated in 2016 was 4 billion USD. One-third of all investment in the 18 free zones in Turkey is at the Aegean Free Zone.

Today there are 170 companies in the Aegean Free Zone, 100 domestic and 70 international.

The Aegean Free Zone provides employment for nearly 19,650 people.

Land is a state property and is provided on leasehold basis for 45 years. Ready-made facilities are provided on leasehold basis, too.

Companies in the sphere of electronics, automotive parts, machinery manufacturing and assembly, aerospace and defense industry, textiles, are working in the Aegean Free Zone.

The main partners are European countries, which invested in opening their own production in due time.

Russia’s share in foreign trade turnover of the Aegean Free Zone is rather small. Rustam Minnikhanov believes there is a big potential for developing mutual cooperation in this area. He gave an errand to ministries of industry and trade, Tatarstan Investment Development Agency and Alabuga SEZ to study these opportunities as well as forms and methods of state support that helped the economic zone developing rapidly.
