On August 15, speaking at a plenary session of August meeting of educational and scientific workers “Ethno-cultural and educational potential of educational system of the Republic of Tatarstan” in Muslyumovo region, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov called rectors of regional universities for working more closely with school leavers so that the talented youth want to stay in the region.

In his speech Minnikhanov noted that Tatarstan actively participates in all federal programmes in the field of education. Due to this about two billion roubles have been additionally attracted in the educational sphere from the federal budget this year.

Minnikhanov continued that much is being done in the republic in terms of the development of vocational education. There are 25 resource centres in Tatarstan, and five more centres are planned to be opened in the near future, he added. At the same time, according to Tatarstan President, there is no need to open resource centers in every region of the republic. These facilities will function successfully only if they actively cooperate with enterprises, Minnikhanov stated.

According to Tatarstan President, there is much talk today about the national education. At the moment, representatives of 193 ethnic groups are living in Russia, while 175 ethnicities are represented in Tatarstan. There are special programmes aimed at preserving the identity of the peoples of Russia. But the main thing is the preservation and development of the language. "We must understand that language is not only a means of communication, but also culture and traditions. This concerns Tatar, Chuvash, Mari, and Udmurt, and other languages. Tatarstan should set an example how to work in this direction. These languages require serious support," Minnikhanov continued.

Summing up, Minnikhanov handed in state awards of the Republic of Tatarstan to teachers and scientific workers who have achieved high results in the educational sphere.
