Minister of Agriculture and Food of the republic reports on the progress of fodder conservation and livestock indicators for the first half of the year

On July 21, speaking at a regional meeting in the Government House of the republic held by Tatarstan Prime Minister Alexey Pesoshin, Minister of Agriculture and Food of the republic Marat Akhmetov reported on the progress of fodder conservation and livestock indicators for the first half of the year.

Akhmetov said that the first mowing of perennial grasses has almost been completed with a total of 850,000 tonnes of fodder units having been harvested in the republic. As many as 320,000 tonnes of hay and about 2.3 million tons of senage have been collected.

Akhmetov also summed up the results of the livestock sector for the first half of the current year. He reported that it has been produced 258,000 tonnes of livestock and poultry, 905,000 tonnes of milk and 30 million pieces of eggs. The number of cattle has been maintained at the last year's level and amounted to 1 million 44 thousand heads, but at the same time, the number of cows in private households has decreased by 5.4 thousand heads.

Akhmetov emphasized that livestock production accounts for almost 80 per cent of the financial and economic results of agricultural production in the first half of the year.
