Alexey Pesoshin holds extraordinary meeting of Governmental Commission for Road Safety

On July 4, in the Government House of the republic, Tatarstan Prime Minister Alexey Pesoshin held an extraordinary meeting of the governmental commission for road safety.

The meeting considered issues of ensuring transport safety and organizing round-the-clock control of passenger interregional and intermunicipal buses in Tatarstan.

Opening the meeting, Pesoshin reminded that on the 2nd of July, 14 people, including four underage persons, were killed and 12 people were injured as a result of collision of an intercity bus and a truck on the 51st km of the Naberezhnye Chelny - Zainsk - Almetyevsk highway in Zainsky region.

Deputy Head of Main Directorate for Road Traffic Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Sergey Dobryakov, who also took part in the meeting, said that while the overall crash rate tends to decline in Russia, the number of road accidents with participation of passenger buses is growing. Dobryakov continued that the number of such accidents has increased by 63 per cent. "The road tragedy occured in Zainsky region of Tatarstan highlights the need to take urgent measures in the sphere of ensuring the safety of passenger transportation," he said.

Dobryakov asked Chairman of Tatarstan Governmental Commission for Road Safety Alexey Pesoshin to prepare a draft legislative initiative to the State Duma of Russia to strengthen the carriers' responsibility for failure to provide details about the traffic and passengers to the information system for transport safety.
