Rustam Minnikhanov welcomes participants of the eighth All-Russian Forum of Tatar Religious Figures

On May 19, at the Kamal Tatar State Academic Theatre, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the plenary session of the eighth All-Russian Forum of Tatar Religious Figures.

This year the forum gathered more than a thousand leaders of Tatar Muslim communities from 68 Russian regions. The today's meeting was focused on the national identity and religion.

"The All-Russian Forum of Tatar Religious Figures has been held in Kazan for the eighth time. When we meet in Kazan, we discuss topical religious and social issues. I want to thank all those who actively participate in the life of our people and the republic, contributing to the spiritual development of the Tatars," Tatarstan President said in his welcoming address.

Minnikhanov said that a number of important events aimed at strengthening ties between Russia and Islamic countries are being held these days. A few days ago, the third meeting of the Strategic Vision Group "Russia – the Islamic World" was held in Grozny. Today a lot of work is being done in Kazan as part of the ninth nternational Economic Summit "Russia – the Islamic World: KazanSummit 2017".

Minnikhanov stressed that active work to preserve the foundations of the Tatar national identity - religion, language, culture and traditions is being carried out. "This work is done not only in Tatarstan. We maintain a dialogue with the Tatars living outside of our republic, we try to support them in every possible way, "he said.

Then Minnikhanov presented state awards of the Republic of Tatarstan.
