26.04.2017

On April 26, at his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov reported on the social and economic situation in the republic.

Minnikhanov also reported on measures taken to overcome the negative situation in the banking sector of Tatarstan.

During the meeting, Minnikhanov reported on positive trends in the region's economy, saying that "the situation in the economy is improving".

Putin noted that Tatarstan has long been first among other regions of Russia in many categories. "However, it has unresolved problems and faces formidable challenges, as everyone else does. Let us discuss everything – the republic’s socioeconomic situation as a whole,” Putin addressed Minnikhanov.

First of all, on behalf of all Tatarstan citizens Minnikhanov thanked the head of the state for the  distinguished title that has been awarded to the first President of Tatarstan, State Counsellor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev. "This is a well-deserved award, a  precious gift  to our republic. I think that we will continue to work on large-scale projects with the Russian Federation and do good for our country," Minnikhanov said.

Then, he briefed about the situation in 2016 and the first quarter of 2017: "I have put together a report, but I will cite some figures right now. The index of industrial output was 103.6 per cent, the gross regional product made 102.5 per cent in 2016. Investments in fixed capital, rural issues and housing - things prioritized by the May Executive Orders - all these targets have been met. As for the first quarter, industrial output made 104.7 per cent, while the gross regional product - 104.2 percent. The economic situation is improving in principle. More than 30 programmes are being implemented for all our cities and municipalities. "

Minnikhanov continued to report that following the instructions outlined in the Address of the President of Russia to the Federal Assembly the republic has prepared a two-year programme for the modernization and capital repair of polyclinics. He said that about 180 facilities will be repaired under the programme, most of them this year, and the rest next year.

Among the most pressing issues, he pointed out the problem with the banks. "Some of our banks have gone bankrupt, and some depositors lost money and are concerned," Minnikhanov said. “A governmental commission has been set up. We are actively working with the Deposit Insurance Agency and the Central Bank and creditors are being organized. People who are guilty have been detained. Law enforcement agencies are analyzing every transaction. And, of course, we will have to find a mechanism. In particular, we are planning to set up a special fund to provide support to those depositors who will not be able to get compensation for sold-off assets, if the assets are not enough. This is one category. And the second category includes interest holders, with whom we are also working. The managers of two large companies have also been detained in this case. We are working on these two matters. On the whole, we are implementing our major projects and programmes. I can say for sure that this year will also be successful."
