On March 8, during his working visit to Germany, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov accompanied by Saxony's Justice Minister Sebastian Gemkow, Russian Consul General in Leipzig Vyacheslav Logutov and other officials visited the BMW Group Plant in Leipzig.

The BMW plant in Leipzig is one of the most modern and environmentally friendly car assembly plants in the world. It was put into operation in 2005.

Every day 740 cars come off the assembly line - BMW 1 and 2 Series cars, as well as BMW i3 and BMW i8 electric vehicles.

The plant employs 4800 people. The total investment in the construction of the plant amounted to about 2.2 billion euros. Starting from 2011, Leipzig is a specialized center, where the BMW Group is accumulating experience in the production of electric vehicles.

The Tatarstan delegation visited the body and assembly shop. The share of human labour traditionally makes 95 per cent at the car factory.
