On February 7, Tatarstan State Counsellor, Chairman of Board of Trustees of the Revival Foundation held a field meeting on the progress of construction, repair and restoration works at facilities in Sviyazhsk.

The meeting began in the archaeological area near the River station, where the Russia's only Museum of Wood Archeology, which has analogues only in Belorussia and Scandinavia, is under construction.

As a result of rescue field works carried out to protect the river bank on the island, a rare complex of medieval wooden residential buildings preserved in the wet cultural layer was found. The scientific study of unique 16th-18th century archaeological wood gave a new insight into the urban culture, construction traditions and technology, urban life of that period.

The historic archaeological wood found in Sviyazhsk includes about 6000 items, which were preserved and placed into a special storage facility and then they will be kept in the museum. Moreover, 1,500-2,000 metal objects, which were also subjected to the preservation to prevent their loss from the open air exposure, were collected from the same archaeological excavations.

To preserve these unique exhibits a concept of creating the Museum of Wood Archeology, which envisages the construction of a protective facility of the archaeological zone, was adopted in 2014.

Mintimer Shaimiev noted some delays in the construction schedule and asked contractors to complete work as soon as possible.
