On June 23, during his working trip to Zelenodolsk (Tatarstan), Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that Tatarstan has created serious infrastructure for the implementation of natural gas vehicles (NGV).

Answering questions from the press after a solemn ceremony of the commissioning of three Gazprom NGV filling stations, Minnikhanov said that the republic has developed a system to converse vehicles to natural gas motor fuel.

KAMAZ is the leader in the implementation of joint projects with Gazprom. A few years ago, there were only 5-6 models of natural gas driven heavy trucks, today there are several dozens of them. And this trend will continue to grow," Minnikhanov said.

"We have approached to the production for LNG (liquefied natural gas). The huge LNG market involves rural settlements and housing estates, where a pipeline construction is unprofitable, and the road and communal sphere. Thus, in addition to the transport area and we have other great opportunities," he said.

Another important reason for more intensive use of gas fuel is its environmental friendliness.

"Transport accounts for 60-70 per cent of the environmental burden. And the traffic load is increasing. It is necessary to converse transport means to gas to make the city cleaner and the air better," Minnikhanov concluded.
