Tatarstan President meets participants of Congress of CIS Oncologists and Radiologists

On September 17, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov met delegates of the 8th Congress of CIS Oncologists and Radiologists that is being held in Kazan.

Welcoming the audience, Rustam Minnikhanov said that it is a great privilege for Tatarstan to host such an important event. “I want to express my gratitude to you for your work,” he said addressing participants of the meeting.

Rustam Minnikhanov briefly told about development of medicine in the republic and noted that Tatarstan achieved the increase of longevity and population increase.

“Unfortunately, cancer diseases are a big problem. Their treatment depends on having proper equipment as well as qualified specialists. We have got our own school of oncology and our specialists work in the republic and abroad. However, studying experience of other regions and countries is important for us,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.

Chairman of the congress presidium, chief oncologist of Russia Mikhail Davydov thanked Rustam Minnikhanov for his interest in organization of the congress. “The level of organization of this congress is unprecedented. Nowhere has it been held with personal participation of a region’s leader,” he said.

Mikhail Davydov noted that Kazan is becoming the best place for holding different congresses and meetings because of high level of organization and rich cultural heritage.

Participants of the meeting discussed prospects of cooperation between Tatarstan and leading Russian and foreign medical organizations.

Mikhail Davydov handed a medal named after academician N.Blokhin to Rustam Minnikhanov. It is awarded to organizers and sponsors for a considerable contribution to prevention of oncological diseases.

Aide to Tatarstan President Tatyana Larionova, Minister of Health Adel Vafin took part in the meeting.
