Tatarstan President: The Astrakhan Region and the Republic of Kalmykia have huge development potential

On August 13, at the Kazan Kremlin, speaking at his meeting with Acting Governor of the Astrakhan region Igor Babushkin and Acting Head of the Republic of Kalmykia Batu Khasikov, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that the Astrakhan region and the Republic of Kalmykia have huge development potential.

Minnikhanov emphasized that Tatarstan attaches great importance to the development of interregional ties with the Astrakhan region and the Republic of Kalmykia. “It is very important that cooperation between regions develop dynamically. We have established good relations in the trade and economic sphere. We should identify priority areas for further work,” Tatarstan President said.

Minnikhanov noted that Tatarstan and the Astrakhan region have similar economic structure. The oil and gas industry and the shipbuilding industry are developed in both regions. The trade turnover between Tatarstan and the Astrakhan region reaches half a billion rubles. “We supply cars and trucks, food, synthetic rubbers, flat glass. We receive vegetables, fish products, salt, confectionery from the Astrakhan region. It is necessary to expand the range and volumes of mutual deliveries,” Tatarstan President suggested and added that direct flights between Kazan and Astrakhan are facilitating the development of ties.

As for the Republic of Kalmykia, the volume of mutual trade is still small to make 30 million roubles. However, according to Tatarstan President, there is every opportunity to increase these indicators.

During the meeting, Minnikhanov also proposed to develop cooperation in the field of education, electronic trading platforms, public services and other areas.

In his turn, Khasikov emphasized that the Republic of Kalmykia is interested in developing close relations with Tatarstan.

At the end of the meeting, Minnikhanov and Babushkin signed the Minutes of the meeting.
