On July 17, at the Alabuga Special Economic Zone, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in a meeting on promising areas of the development of the composite cluster. Director General of the Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation Aleksey Likhachev also participated in the meeting.

Minnikhanov noted that the development of composite materials is of strategic importance. Russian President Vladimir Putin also noted it during the ceremony of exchange of agreements between the Russian Government and the largest companies engaged in the development of key high-tech areas.

“Tatarstan is a member of the Composite without Borders Industrial Cluster. We are interested in creating a complete technological chain of production and promotion of composite products,” Minnikhanov said speaking at the meeting.

In particular, according to Tatarstan President, the production of fiberglass and compounds, fiberglass pipes, fiberglass-based products and epoxy binders is successfully developing in the republic along with the production of carbon fiber.

Minnikhanov added that design work on the production of maleic anhydride started at the TANECO Refinery. It is planned to commission a line to produce basic raw materials for the production of polyester resins with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes in June 2021. Moreover, work to choose a licensor of the technology for the production of acrylonitrile is underway. This production facility is also included in the projected gas-chemical unit of the TANECO complex.

Tatarstan President continued that the aerospace industry has examples of the use of sanctions in the competition in high-tech branches of industry. In particular, it is about sanctions for the supply of materials for a composite wing of the MC-21 aircraft.

“I am sure that the competences created at Rosatom recently, including those implemented in our republic, will ensure the technological safety of the domestic composite industry,”  Minnikhanov concluded.
