Rustam Minnikhanov visits Weimar Bauhaus University

24.06.2019

On June 24, during his working visit to Thuringia (Germany), Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov visited the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

The University is primarily focused on studying the human sciences, in particular specialties in the areas of arts, design, media, etc. Such technical disciplines as civil engineering and architecture are also represented. As many as 4,000 students are currently studying at the university.

Modern methods are actively used in the educational process and scientific research is held in well-equipped laboratories. Minnikhanov visited one of them, namely the Bauhaus Digital Laboratory. The laboratory is aimed at the development of software products and equipment for modern user interfaces. Big data analysis research and high-performance computing for engineering and scientific simulations are also held.

Tatarstan President got acquainted with a number of high-tech projects, which Digital Laboratory specialists are currently working on. In particular, these are solutions in the area of transport infrastructure development.

Minnikhanov was presented the experience of the introduction of the capabilities of artificial intelligence in construction and architecture. One of the main directions is the information modeling of various construction processes. Representatives of the laboratory presented 3D model of water treatment facilities.

During the presentation, the specialists of the university also noted that artificial intelligence can significantly save time and resources. For example, the use of it in the expansion of the broadband Internet network reduces the process from six weeks to six hours.

Tatarstan President also got acquainted with smart sensors developed by IT specialists of the Bauhaus. Small devices are able to measure various parameters of facilities, in particular the temperature of the material, the level of structural vibrations, etc. Such sensors can be installed on bridges to constantly monitor their condition and determine when the facility needs repair.

Minnikhanov visited the Laboratory of Visualization and Virtual Reality.  There is a 3D-display aimed at modelling of processes in construction and engineering and visualization of complex 3D simulations. Engineers and programmers can work together on a virtual construction site. Special 3D glasses help to create a 3D- image of an object and work on a project in a big team.

At the end of the visit, Minnikhanov thanked the representatives of the University for the detailed presentation. “I think that these systems will be in great demand in construction. For example, before the repair work, you can do the routing and consider all the processes in detail. It can also be used in medicine. I visited the Neurosurgery Center in Tyumen, where 3D simulators are working on the most complex cases. This is a completely different level of work,” Tatarstan President said.

He said that there is a great potential of cooperation between the Bauhaus and regional universities. Rector of Kazan State University of Architecture and Building Construction Rashit Nizamov said that the Kazan University is already cooperating with German colleagues.
