Tatarstan President: A lawyer is a noble profession, which is in demand in society worldwide

On November 27, at the Kazan City Hall, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Co-chairmans of the Association of Lawyers of Russia Sergei Stepashin and Pavel Krashennikov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, Chairman of Tatarstan regional branch of the Association of Lawyers of Russia Ildar Khalikov took part in a solemn ceremony to hand in the Lawyer of the Year of Tatarstan awards and All-Russian Legal Award named after Gabriel Shershenevich.

A lawyer is a noble profession, which is in demand in society worldwide, Minnikhanov said in his speech. “Every aspect of ​​life needs legal assistance. Specialists in the field of law are particularly needed in Tatarstan with its powerful industry and developed economy, high investment attractiveness,” Tatarstan President said.  

He stressed that both material incentives and recognition of the merits of the professional community play an important role in enhancing the prestige of the profession. Every year, the Association of Lawyers of Russia hands in the highest legal award “Lawyer of the Year” and a number of other prestigious awards. “It is gratifying that one of them is awarded in Kazan. This is the award named after Gabriel Shershenevich - the great Russian civilist, professor of Kazan and Moscow universities, who made a significant contribution to the development of the civil law. The ceremony has been held for the second time and has become a good tradition,” Minnikhanov added.

As many as 13 years have passed since the establishment of the Association of Lawyers of Russia. According to Tatarstan President, during this time, the organization has successfully accomplished the tasks assigned to it in providing qualified legal assistance, improving the quality of legal education and legal culture of citizens: “I am sure that you live up to the confindence the Russian President Vladimir Putin, who joined the Association first, placed on you.”

Minnikhanov noted that the act of the Government of the Russian Federation, according to which the organization will represent the interests of Russian citizens on the violation of their rights and freedoms in US courts, confirms the high level of authority of the Association of Lawyers of Russia.

“The achievements the Association has made are the result of the activities of its regional branches. Last year, Ildar Khalikov was elected Chairman of the Tatarstan branch. This has given a new impetus to the development of the organization. I wish you move beyond,  continue to search and introduce new areas in your activity,” Tatarstan President concluded.

Then, Minnikhanov handed in state awards of Tatarstan.
