On October 30, on the sidelines of the Global Islamic Economy Summit in Dubai, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had an interview with Thomson Reuters News Agency and told the journalists about the development of Islamic banking tools and the promotion of the principles of halal lifestyle in Tatarstan and Russia as a whole.

Minnikhanov noted that the direction of Islamic banking is not actively developing in Russia. But the interest in this form of work is gradually increasing. Thus, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation has established a working group on partner banking, which forms new approaches to the promotion of Islamic finance instruments in our country.

Tatarstan President put much emphasis on a new project, implemented jointly with Sberbank of Russia and with the assistance from the Islamic Development Bank, in particular, the establishment of the International Islamic Financial Centre in the republic.

Tatarstan President informed about the prospects for the development of the halal area. He said that with the support of the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre, a halal lifestyle new direction is developing.

“Over 20 million Muslims live in Russia and they need to develop halal education, medicine and tourism. Today, this market is in great demand. Our partners from Dubai are providing us with advisory support in solving these problems. I refer not only to Tatarstan, but also to Russia as a whole,” Tatarstan President added.
