Rustam Minnikhanov: The opening of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kazan is a solid step towards developing relations with China

On August 22, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the opening of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kazan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minnikhanov said that the opening of the Consulate General is a solid step towards developing relations between Russia and China and that the regions should also contribute to these relations.

According to him, due to the geographical location of the Consulate General of China Chinese partners will choose Tatarstan for their business expansion.

Minnikhanov noted that trade turnover between Tatarstan and the People's Republic of China is growing and increased by more than 50 per cent last year.

Besides, Tatarstan President reminded that KAMAZ Automaker is developing relations with Chinese partners. I am sure that a serious agreement on the establishment of a new joint venture will be signed during the Eastern Economic Forum, Minnikhanov said. He also said that it is planned to sign an agreement on cooperation between Tatarstan and two large Chinese provinces during the forum.

"We have excellent relations with Chinese colleagues. A wonderful Consulate General has been opened today. I think now we need direct flights, which will give impetus to the development of relations," Minnikhanov continued.

The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Kazan is the sixth one opened by China in Russia, the Ambassador said. He recalled that 2018 and 2019 have been declared the years of interregional cooperation between Russia and China.
