Rustam Minnikhanov meets Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbaev

On June 15, at the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbaev.

Before the meeting, Nazarbaev together with Minnikhanov visited the exhibition of industrial facilities of Tatarstan, such as the Zelenodolsk Shipbuilding Plant, KAMAZ Automaker, the Ford Sollers plant and the Kazan Helicopter Plant.

Opening the meeting, Minnikhanov thanked Nazarbayev for his visit to Kazan and cooperation with Tatarstan. He also noted the special role of Kazakhstan President in the development of the Eurasian area. “Today, Kazakhstan is our most important partner. Tatarstan and Kazakhstan are close in language and religion. A large diaspora of the Tatars lives in your country. We very often visit different regions of Kazakhstan, where we find the fullest support,” Tatarstan President said.

Minnikhanov emphasized the necessity of more serious integration and the establishment of joint projects. There is also great potential of cooperation in education.

Kazakhstan President noted great potential for the development of trade and economic relations. Today, the mutual trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Tatarstan is 700 million US dollars. Nazarbayev expressed his confidence that this amount could be brought to one billion US dollars. He also emphasized agriculture, medicine and humanitarian area as the promising area of cooperation.

At the end of their meeting, Kazakhstan President handed in the Order of Friendship “Dostyk” of the First Class, the highest award of Kazakhstan for foreign citizens, to Minnikhanov.
