On February 9, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in a ceremony to launch a new production facility t to sterilize one-use medical products in Laishevo region of the republic.

This year, the Kazan Medical Instrument Plant is in position to provide medical institutions of Tatarstan with products in the amount of 100 million roubles. According to forecasts, the annual increase in production will amount to more than 200 million roubles. By 2020, the volume of production will reach 1.2 billion roubles a year.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minnikhanov stressed that the plant for the sterilization of medical products was much needed in the healthcare sector. “We have extensive plans for the development of new production facilities related to medicine. We believe that such projects are extremely important,” Minnikhanov said.

Tatarstan President appreciated that the investor chose a municipal industrial site to implement the project. According to him, Laishevo region has all the necessary conditions for successful business development. "The region is located in close proximity to Kazan. Moreover, it features favorable infrastructure and logistics conditions such as transport hubs and the airport. I am sure that this is the right choice," he added.

In his turn, Akchurin said that the plant is ready to sterilize up to 120 cubic meters of materials daily.

While looking around the production lines, Minnikhanov was told that last year the volume of the Russian medical product market, including consumables, amounted to 83 billion roubles. At the same time, foreign materials account for 86 per cent. Therefore, the opening of the new plant solves the problem of import substitution.

Also, representatives of the plant said that more than 50 new jobs will be created at the enterprise. Moreover, it is planned to build 44 houses to attract young specialists.
