Russian President Vladimir Putin presented a new supersonic bomber Tu-160M in Kazan

On January 25, during his working visit to Kazan, Russian President Vladimir Putin together with Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Denis Manturov and Russian Deputy Defence Minister Yury Borisov visited the Gorbunov Kazan Aircraft Plant.

Russian President watched the demonstration test programme flight of the new supersonic strategic bomber- missile carrier Tu-160M at the autodrome complex. The supersonic plane was named after Peter Deinekin, the first Commander of the Russian Air Force, a merited air force pilot, Hero of Russia and holder of over 20 Soviet, Russian and foreign orders.

The demonstration flight took place at an altitude of 300 metres and lasted about seven minutes. The pilots performed manoeuvres to check the plane’s in-flight stability and controllability.

The decision to manufacture strategic missile carriers at the Kazan Aviation Factory was made in 2015. The new plane was towed from the final assembly shop to the plant’s flight test station in November 2017.

Tu-160M is the largest swing-wing airplane, one of the most powerful warplane in the world. The airplane will be equipped with new management information system which has the advantages of collection, processing and output of flight information in the unified system. 

Flight and navigation equipment, on-board communication complex, automatic flight control system, on-board radar, radio-electronic warfare system will be upgraded. It will also be equipped with a more advanced fuel control system, a centre of gravity control system and an engine control system.
