On January 10, at Kazan diocesan administration, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov held a meeting with bishops of Tatarstan Metropolia of the Russian Orthodox Church
Metropolitan of Kazan and Tatarstan Theophan, the Bishop of Chistopol and Nizhnekamsk Parmen and Bishop of Bugulma Mefody took part in the meeting.
Welcoming the participants of the meeting, Minnikhanov thanked for mutual understanding, for assistance in maintaining peace and harmony in the region.
The President congratulated Orthodox Christians on Christmas, celebrated on January 7, and handed over keys to new Lada Largus vehicles to representatives of three dioceses of the republic.
Bishops of Tatarstan Metropolia of the Russian Orthodox Church told Minnikhanov about plans and promising projects in the field of social service, education and culture.
Metropolitan of Kazan and Tatarstan thanked Tatarstan President for the opportunity to meet and discuss current issues. Theophan emphasized that peace, harmony and unity in the society, tolerance and mutual understanding are the main issues. This is something that we are working on, he said.
Theophan served the Christmas Vespers in Annunciation Cathedral of the Kazan Kremlin.
According to Tatarstan Ministry of Internal Affairs, over 50,000 people took part in the Christmas mass in 2018, including in Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Yelabuga, Nizhnekamsk and others.
The issues, raised at the third Forum of the Orthodox Community of Tatarstan, were discussed during today’s meeting.
