On September 28, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov accompanied by Chief of Staff of Tatarstan President’s Administration Asgat Safarov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, Aide to Tatarstan President Leila Fazleeva, First Deputy Minister of Construction, Architecture,  Housing and Utilities of the republic Aleksey Frolov inspected the renovated building of the regional Union of Composers.

The building is part of the M. Podurueva-Staheev estate built in 1906 and is an architectural monument. Chairman of the Union of Composers of Russia and Tatarstan Rashid Kalimullin gave explanations during the inspection.

Minnikhanov was told about the repair and restoration work and further tasks. In particular, the need to allocate additional funds for the improvement of the adjacent territory and repair of the façade was noted. Tatarstan President asked designers to address this issue and approve the final estimated cost.

Minnikhanov looked around updated classrooms and a concert hall.  In the museum room, Kalimullin demonstrated a collection of ancient Turkic musical instruments, including kylkubyz, saz, dumbyra and others, which were used by the Tatars.  According to him, it is time to revive the tradition of playing these instruments. “The folk musical culture of the Tatars is very original, they used a variety of musical instruments. However, today only kurai is well-known. It is necessary to revive our musical traditions”, Kalimullin noted.

He thanked Minnikhanov for repairing the building of the Union of Composers and gave him the Letter of Gratitude on behalf of the Union of Composers of Russia.
