On September 25, during his working visit to Tashkent (Uzbekistan), Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Gulomzhon Ibragimov.

Speaking at the meeting, Minnikhanov noted that the volume of foreign trade turnover between Tatarstan and Uzbekistan does not yet correspond to the available potential. "We need to intensify our contacts, establish economic and humanitarian ties. Moreover, the presidents of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan defined the development of interregional cooperation between the two countries as a priority,” he said.

Minnikhanov stressed that Tatatarstan delegation to Tashkent includes business leaders and heads of regional state agencies. "We believe that there is a significant potential for developing cooperation in the field of petrochemistry, engineering, tourism, IT, agriculture, education and science. Today there are about 30 special zones in Uzbekistan. A number of large industrial sites, such as Alabuga, Himgrad, Master Kama Industrial Park and others are also successfully operating in Tatarstan. We can establish contacts in this sphere," Minnikhanov said.

In his turn, Ibragimov noted that Uzbekistan pays much attention to the development of bilateral relations with Russia. The volume of mutual trade with Tatarstan is still small, but Rustam Minnikhanov's visit to Tashkent can give a serious impetus to the development of regional relations, he said.

"We hope that thanks to the political will of our presidents we will be able to establish mutually beneficial cooperation," Ibragimov said.
