On September 1, at the Kazan Galeevskaya Mosque, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan Vasil Shaikhraziev, Chief of Staff of Tatarstan President’s Administration Asgat Safarov and Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin took part in a festive prayer on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.

Mufti of the Republic of Tatarstan Kamil Khazrat Samigullin performed a festive prayer. Before that, he read out congratulatory telegrams addressed to the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Tatarstan and all Muslims of the republic from Russian President Vladimir Putin and Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov.

During a traditional sermon, Kamil Khazrat Samigullin told believers about the deep meaning of the ceremony of offering sacrifices, which lies not in the slaughter of an animal, but in obedience, piety and the fear of God. The annual sacrifice of animals is a symbolic expression of willingness to sacrifice all possessions for the sake of worship and submission to Allah's dictates, he said.

This year, Eid al-Adha coincides with the Day of Knowledge in Russia. On this occasion, Kamil Khazrat Samigullin touched upon the importance of education in human life. He mentioned that Muslim scholars made a great contribution to the development of world science. Muslim scholars of Tatarstan also left their notable mark in the history. He continued that in Islamic schools in Baghdad works of Shigabutdin Mardzhani, Galimdzhan Barudi, Murat Ramzi and others were studied.

After the sermon at the mosque, a festive prayer was held.
