Higher education

There are 27 higher educational organizations including 17 state and 10 non-state institutions in the Republic of Tatarstan. In addition, 49 branches of higher educational institutions, of which 27 are state and 22 non-state, are working in the republic.

By and large, 180,000 people study at Tatarstan higher educational institutions.

20 higher educational institutions (15 state and 5 non-state) offer secondary professional educational programmes.

230 institutions offered professional development and internship post-graduate programmes in 2012/2013, including:

- Additional post-graduate education at higher educational institutions (institutes of additional professional education and continuous education; faculties of professional development and additional education; centres of continuous education) – 60;
- Institutions of post-graduate professional education - 23
- Institutions offering additional educational programmes for adults (centres, associations, etc.) – 147.

The Tatarstan Government Scholarship Programme “Algarysh” was launched in the Republic of Tatarstan in 2006. To the point, 100 million roubles are allocated to implement the programme every year. Due to the programme, students, professors of higher educational institutions, employees of educational institutions, specialists of ministries and agencies study at leading Russian and foreign educational and research centers every year.

In 2013, regional higher educational institutions were given an opportunity to implement educational programmes with participation of famous foreign scientists, teachers, researchers and experts under “Algarysh” programme. By results of the competition, the Regional commission provided grants for 11 outstanding scientists from 9 countries (USA, Germany, France, Finland, Switzerland, Netherlands, Italy). By and large, 301 people received grants in 2013.

Scholarships of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan for full-time students of state higher professional educational institutions, winners of the final round of All-Russia and international school olympiads were established in 2010. Twenty nine students received such scholarships in 2013.

The scholarship “Teacher of the future” in the amount of 10,000 roubles for MA students of Kazan (Volga) Federal University was established in 2013 to attract young skilled specialists to educational institutions to teach most popular subjects in accordance with “Kilechek-Future” Education Development Strategy in 2010-2015. Scholarships “Teacher in the system of secondary general education” for 2013/2014 academic year were granted to 10 MA students of Kazan (Volga) Federal University.
